KK, 53, collapsed at the hotel where he was staying after a concert at Kolkata’s Nazrul Mancha auditorium. A doctor at CMRI hospital said the singer had passed away.
In the late 1990s, Krishnakumar Kunnath, who performed under the stage name KK, was known for songs such as ‘Pal’ and ‘Yaaron’, which were frequently heard during school and college farewells and teen cultural events.
“There is an energy an artiste gets when on stage. No matter how one’s condition is, once on stage, I forget everything and just perform,” KK had said in his memoir on his official website, The Mesmerizer. KK married Jyothy in 1991. His son Nakul Krishna Kunnath sang the song “Masti” from his Humsafar with him. KK also has a daughter named Tamara Kunnath.
From the early 2000s, he blazed a career in playback singing and recorded an array of popular Bollywood songs.
In addition to Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, and Bengali, KK has recorded songs in other languages.
Politicians, actors, and fans are expressing condolences.

He is best known for his effervescent “Khuda Jaane,” romantic songs such as “Tu Hi Meri Shab Hai” and “Awarapan Banjarapan,” and melancholy “Tadap Tadap Ke,” one of his early hits from the film Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam.
