The singer KK died in Kolkata after a concert, Tributes Pour in

KK, 53, collapsed at the hotel where he was staying after a concert at Kolkata’s Nazrul Mancha auditorium. A doctor at CMRI hospital said the singer had passed away.

In the late 1990s, Krishnakumar Kunnath, who performed under the stage name KK, was known for songs such as ‘Pal’ and ‘Yaaron’, which were frequently heard during school and college farewells and teen cultural events.

“There is an energy an artiste gets when on stage. No matter how one’s condition is, once on stage, I forget everything and just perform,” KK had said in his memoir on his official website, The Mesmerizer. KK married Jyothy in 1991. His son Nakul Krishna Kunnath sang the song “Masti” from his Humsafar with him. KK also has a daughter named Tamara Kunnath. 

From the early 2000s, he blazed a career in playback singing and recorded an array of popular Bollywood songs.

In addition to Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, and Bengali, KK has recorded songs in other languages.

Politicians, actors, and fans are expressing condolences. 

KK died of a suspected heart attack at age 53 after a concert on Tuesday,  tributes are pouring on social media from fans including Indian prime minister Narendra Modi.

He is best known for his effervescent “Khuda Jaane,” romantic songs such as “Tu Hi Meri Shab Hai” and “Awarapan Banjarapan,” and melancholy “Tadap Tadap Ke,” one of his early hits from the film Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam.

Music director Thaman tweeted,” This is Most Shocking …… Kk JI …. An Amazing Talent Amazing Human Not With us today …….. Rest In peace #KK Saab Unpredictable ………… life !!!!”(sic)

Popular singer Shreya Goshal tweeted,”I am unable to wrap my head around this news. Numb. #KK Why! This is too hard to accept! My heart is shattered into pieces.”

One fan shared Telugu songs of KK and wrote,” 140secs lo pettalem asalu aa songs ni but some of everyones favourites by #KK sir chinna edit #RIPKK.”(sic)
