According to TOI, The Israeli embassy has recently expressed its deep concern over the portrayal of the Holocaust in the film “Bawaal“. Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, the movie has faced criticism for its alleged trivialization of one of the darkest chapters in human history.”Bawaal” tells the story of Ajay Dixit, played by Varun Dhawan, a high school history teacher, and his wife Nisha, portrayed by Janhvi Kapoor, as they embark on a European tour. During their journey, they visit significant World War 2 sites, including Auschwitz and Anne Frank’s house in Amsterdam. However, it is the inclusion of controversial lines and scenes that has sparked outrage.
The film includes lines that draw comparisons between marital discord and the horrors of Auschwitz, as well as equating greedy individuals to Hitler. Furthermore, there is a fantasy sequence where Janhvi and Varun are shown wearing striped pajamas in a Nazi camp.
The Israeli embassy, in a statement, expressed its deep concern and disappointment over the trivialization of such a significant event in history. The Holocaust was a time of immense suffering and loss, with millions of innocent lives being brutally taken. It should never be used lightly or for entertainment purposes.
