The much-anticipated release of the mytho-fantasy drama Shaakuntalam starring Samantha Ruth Prabhu has been met with mixed reviews from critics and a lackluster response from audiences. Despite the buzz surrounding the film and the excitement generated by Prabhu’s look in the movie, it seems that this has not translated into box office success.According to industry tracker Sacnilk, Shaakuntalam earned only Rs 1.5 crore on its second day, bringing the total collection to Rs 5 crore for two days. These numbers are a disappointment, especially considering the hype surrounding the film.
While the film did manage to garner a 20.59% occupancy in Telugu and 8.35% in Hindi, it was not enough to draw in the crowds.And this Sunday, the test for Gunasekhar’s latest film inspired by Kalidasa’s play Abhijnanashakuntalam will begin.
The film features a woman-led cast and is being produced in Telugu.The film is being helmed by Gunasekhar, who is known for his work in films like Rudhramadevi and Okkadu.
