Late singer SP Balasubrahmanyam awarded Padma Vibhushan
The Ministry of home affairs on Monday announced the list of Padma awardees on Republic day evening. This year late playback legend singer SP Balasubrahmanyam has been honoured posthumously with Padma Vibhushan.
SPB was best known for his singing. He was a multifaceted talented person, who made his mark as an actor, composer, film producer, anchor, and many more. He worked predominantly in the Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, Kannada and Malayalam film industries.
SP Balasubrahmanyam had won 6 national awards as the best male playback singer for his work in different languages. He has been a recipient of Padma Shri in 2001 and Padma Bhushan in 2011. This year Government of India announced Padma Vibhushan award for the legend (2021).
Let Bala Subramanyam was popular in the movie world, he recorded over 40,000 songs and 16 languages over a period of five decades. He died on September 25 in Chennai due to severe covid-19 pneumonia. He was 74.
