Hotstar to premier Akshay Kumar’s film Mission Cinderella Film

 

This is the third Akshay Kumar film to go direct to digital after Laxmii and Atrangi Re. Mission Cinderella, directed by Ranjit Tiwari, will premiere directly on Disney+ Hotstar. As per the latest sources, Produced by Vashu & Jackky Bhagnani, the movie has been sold for a sum of Rs 135 crore.

 

 

 Even though it’s not the highest amount for a digital premiere, as OTT players have slowed down, it’s one of the biggest deals for a direct-to-digital premiere. A source close to the development revealed that the platform Hotstar is planning to introduce Mission Cinderella as its major attraction for Summer 2022.

 

Additionally, the satellite and music rights for Mission Cinderella were pre-sold, netting the producers a profit of around Rs 20 crore. “Mission Cinderella isn’t exactly a big-screen spectacle that can attract big audiences. Akshay and the producers understand this. Yet, on the other hand, the film’s budget, including Akshay’s acting fees, was around Rs 175 crore. A direct-to-digital premiere was chosen after analyzing all business models,” the source added.

 

As part of their second film, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, Akshay and Bhagnani will invest the nominal profit from Mission Cinderella, which compensated Bell Bottom‘s losses, into the pre-production of this new film. Aside from that, Akshay has five films out this year. Mission Cinderella could not have fit in there. The actor decided to give 5 films to exhibitors, and one to OTT, generating revenues for producers,” the source said.
